Citing claims they had seen on a website belonging to Rima Laibow and Albert Stubblebeine, they expressed concern that the use of vitamins and other natural health therapies would be prohibited worldwide after that date.

May 1-5, 2006, saw the thirty-fourth meeting of the Codex Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL) take place in Ottawa, Canada. Along with the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU), CCFL is one of the main Codex committees whose work is increasingly threatening the future of natural healthcare and health freedom. Reporting on the meeting, Rima Laibow and Major General Albert (Bert) N. Stubblebine III (U.S. Army, Retired), founders of the so-called Natural Solutions Foundation, curiously chose to describe the outcome as having been a “Stunning Victory” for health freedom, despite the fact that this assertion has absolutely no basis in fact. World Trade Organization Ruling on GM Foods
Signals Danger for DSHEA

Shortly prior to the filing of three GM trade complaints against the EU, the Codex Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology submitted reports to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, recommending the adoption of four global guidelines it had drawn up regarding GM foods. The Codex Alimentarius Commission subsequently adopted these four guidelines as new global standards.

Codex Alimentarius and the GM Threat

Codex has developed various guidelines related to GM foods, amongst which is one which is designed to “provide a framework for undertaking risk analysis on the safety and nutritional aspects of foods derived from modern biotechnology” - in effect defining the manner in which GM foods shall be deemed to be “safe.” The text does not, however, address the environmental, ethical, moral or socio-economic aspects of the research, development, production and marketing of GM foods. As far as Codex is concerned then, so long as GM foods are deemed to be “safe” there is no reason to prohibit their sale anywhere in the world.

Miracle in Rome?

The Natural Solutions Foundation reported after the July 2005 meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in Rome that a “miracle” had occurred, and that the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) had expressed “significant displeasure with the anti-health approach to nutrition taken by Codex over the past 4 decades”. Codex Meeting in Rome, Italy, 2005

During the first week of July 2005 the Codex Alimentarius Commission met in Rome, Italy and, as widely predicted, agreed to adopt the controversial Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements as a new global standard. However, in its desperation to adopt these guidelines the Commission blatantly ignored its own Procedural Manual rules and in so doing hammered the final nail into the coffin of its remaining credibility and legitimacy.

Codex Meeting in Bonn, Germany, 2004

On Sunday 31 October the Dr. Rath Health Foundation welcomed an international audience to the large auditorium of Bad Godesburg municipal hall in Bonn. “Stop Codex” was the urgent appeal, with the message: “We say ‘No' to the unscrupulous plans of the Codex Alimentarius Commission to prohibit free access to natural remedies and information about them.”

Codex Guidelines for Vitamins and Minerals –
Optional or Mandatory?

March 2004 – The Codex Alimentarius Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Supplements are a joint attempt by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to formulate one single standard governing the sale of food supplements that can be applied throughout the global market. Under the guise of free trade 'harmonization' the Guidelines are being drawn up by the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU), where vitamins and minerals are defined as foods. This committee meets in Germany once every year, usually in November.

Codex Meeting in Bonn, Germany, 2003

On the 2nd November 2003 representatives from 15 countries and almost 1,000 participants spoke out in protest against the planned Codex anti-vitamin laws. The Dr. Rath Health Foundation had issued invitations to an international protest event at the Hotel Maritim in Bonn under the title “Stop Codex”.
